NORDIC WALKING
THE FASTEST GROWING SPORT
WHAT IS NORDIC WALKING?
In summary, Nordic Walking is a full body workout that strengthens your back muscles, trains your core, tones and shapes your whole body and helps you lose weight. It's sociable, fun, fantastic for mental health and is one of the fastest growing sports in Europe.

IT IS AN ENHANCEMENT OF ORDINARY WALKING BUT TWICE AS EFFECTIVE
You'll be amazed how much of a work-out it is. Burn double the calories to a 'normal' walk. As an example, when I walk my dog for an hour I burn approximately 225 calories (5000 steps), compared to 1 hour of Nordic Walking burns 500 calories (8000 steps).
USE NORDIC WALKING POLES TO GIVE THE UPPER BODY A WORK OUT TOO
You'll use 90% of your body's muscle groups by using poles with your walk. Don't laugh at people with poles in their hands (lots of people do!), they assist in moving your core and upper body muscles groups for an all over work out. You'll soon feel the difference the poles make to the workout.
WORK HARDER FOR LONGER
Let the poles propel you for longer in distance and in speed.
TRAINERS OR WALKING SHOES?
Comfortable soled trainers or walking shoes are advised but not heavy walking high ankled boots. I personally like my lightweight Nike running shoes for pure comfort in the Summer however in the Winter you will definitely need something more hardy. I use a waterproof trail running trainer for the wetter and muddier conditions of the year.
WEAR WEATHER APPROPRIATE COMFORTABLE CLOTHING
Layers are great and waterproofs of course for our typical British weather conditions! I like a baseball cap and Nike sportswear, no different if I were going to the gym for a workout. It really doesn't have to be an old cagoule with walking trousers, although waterproofs can be handy at times. Layers are the key for the cooler months and certainly gloves as your hands can get cold.
FUN & ACHIEVABLE ACTIVITY FOR ALL!
Never too old or too young for this wonderful sport. This sport is literally suitable for everyone, old/young and somewhere in between like me!
